New American Voters is an initiative that promotes naturalization and voting for permanent residents who are eligible to become US citizens.
In the United States, there are approximately 9 million legal permanent residents, who are eligible to naturalize and obtain citizenship. New American Voters is currently promoting the #2MillionBy2022 campaign, which aims to naturalize 2 million people just in time for the November 8, 2022 midterm election.
In this way, the initiative, which is led by the National Partnership for New Americans, seeks to educate, empower and encourage eligible residents to take the last step of their immigration journey and become citizens. In this way they will be able to engage in democratic participation and register to vote in federal, state and local elections.
New American Voters reports that between 2016 and 2020 around 5.19 million people across the country obtained citizenship. For this reason, the campaign not only worked to promote naturalization for eligible people, but also that now citizens register to vote in their local, state elections and especially in the 2022 midterm elections.
