The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, despite its suspension for new applicants, still allows renewals for current beneficiaries.
Despite the fact that this program has been suspended for almost a year, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) continues to accept the submission of DACA renewal applications. In this sense, DACA beneficiaries can still renew their permit through the Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS).
The DACA permit must be renewed every two years and applications can be submitted online. However, it is not a simple process, since it is necessary to complete four forms:
- I-821D, Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
- I-765, Application for Employment Authorization and I-765WS
- G-1145, Electronic Notification of Acceptance of Petition/Application
To fill out the forms, the advice of a specialist in immigration matters is usually necessary. Likewise, it will be necessary to have the previous renewal application to use as a reference when filling out the data.
Other necessary documents are copies of both sides of the last employment authorization, two passport-type photos. On the other hand, it is necessary to label and organize the second DACA criteria evidence and finally mail the forms to the correct address.
The DACA renewal fee is $495 as it covers biometric fees and application processing. USCIS does not accept cash payments so it will be necessary to purchase a money order for that amount. There are even some payment exemptions for minors, chronically disabled or people with debts and low income.
It is recommended to submit between 210 and 150 days before the expiration date of the current permit. To solve doubts, it is necessary to call the USCIS Contact Center at 800-375-5283.
