The Government of Mexico through the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Condusef) and the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME) presented the booklet "It is better to be prepared" aimed at migrants in the US .USA
The guide “It is better to be prepared”, informs Mexican migrants in the United States about the options they have to open a savings account, send money to Mexico and take care of their assets.
This document has three protection sections, on the risks as a migrant in the United States, help in the event of an encounter with US authorities, official documents, among other topics; Life Plan, section that talks about plans for retirement, starting a business, financial education and more; and finally Sending money to Mexico, a section to learn about and compare all the options for sending money.
In the Life Plan section, the Condusef and the IME explain the importance of making use of banking institutions that have the protection of the Institute for the Protection of Bank Savings (IPAB) in Mexican banks and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in United States. In this way, sending and receiving money to Mexico will be safe.
Likewise, the Life Plan section presents the Juntos Avanzamos program, a network of Credit Unions that promote the financial empowerment of the Latino community in the United States. These companies offer loans to immigrants who do not have a social security number and accept registration fees to consult for opening accounts.
Regarding the protection of assets, Condusef offers guidance on financial products and attention to claims for financial services contracted in Mexico. Through the Foreign Assistance Module (MAEX), Mexicans in the United States can go and obtain information and advice on problems with financial services contracted in Mexico.
For sending money, Condusef recommends government services such as Banco del Bienestar, Telecomm Telégrafos through the Giro Paisano service,
