US Vice President Kamala Harris held a meeting at the White House with recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
On July 22, Vice President Harris met with DACA recipients after a federal judge in Texas outlawed the program the previous week. At the meeting, Harris stressed that dreamers deserve a path to American citizenship.
Dreamers serve in the military and on the frontlines, earn degrees, and lead companies. They should not live with such uncertainty. Congress must create a pathway to citizenship through reconciliation or other means. I met with Dreamers and advocates to discuss the path forward. pic.twitter.com/1uaQhrjbDN

Vice President Harris met with 11 migrant activists, DACA recipients, and dreamerssome showing up physically and one remotely. During the meeting they discussed Judge Hanen's recent decision on DACA and the suspension of new applications. Harris explained that the administration is taking steps to reverse the situation and is trusting Congress to pass legislation that will ultimately grant citizenship to millions of immigrants.
" The dreamers serve in the military and on the front lines, obtain titles and lead companies. They should not live with so much uncertainty. Congress must create a path to citizenship through reconciliation or other means. I met with Dreamers and advocates to discuss the way forward, "Harris wrote via her official vice president Twitter account after the meeting.
Harris commented that within the government they recognize all the rights that dreamers deserve and that they will achieve through citizenship: "we will be tireless in the fight for a path to citizenship," she said.
On the other hand, she highlighted the work of dreamers during the COVID-19 pandemic: "At least 200 thousand frontline workers who saved the lives and protected the lives of people they did not know are dreamers".
“Many came to our country, the United States, before they could walk or speak. Many have recently lived, during these years, a life of uncertainty despite the fact that this is the only country they know. They deserve a path to citizenship, ” Harris concluded.
