Senators seek to promote a new proposal to protect the undocumented and provide them with employment authorization

Democratic senators are looking for a new way to protect undocumented immigrants from deportation and also to grant employment authorizations for up to ten years.

The new proposal seeks to help undocumented immigrants to stay in the country legally by giving them a path to legal permanent residence. This is one of the priorities of progressive senators and is also one of the main plans of the administration of President Joe Biden.

However, the first step is to prevent the deportation of the undocumented and provide them with protection. Also part of the proposal includes the Employment Authorization for five and up to ten years.

This also considers the option of surrendering humanitarian parole or the right to stay temporarily in the United States for up to five years, for those immigrants who arrived in 2011 or earlier.

Recently, 43 congressmen signed a letter for Senate MP Elizabeth MacDonough to reconsider including in the Budget Bill a plan so that beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Action Program (DACA) can have access to permanent residence. This after speaking out against this proposal last September.

"By denying any possible path to citizenship or lawful permanent resident (LPR) status, the parliamentarian, an unelected official, is denying the economic impact of such legislation and the tributes that millions of undocumented people have paid to this country." explains the letter.
