The Joe Biden administration seeks the protection of the undocumented by promoting new regulations for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Since 2012, DACA has provided protection to the population of immigrants who came to the United States as minors, and has allowed thousands of immigrants to study and work legally in the country.
However, in July of this year, following a Texas judge's ruling against DACA, the entry of initial applications has been suspended. However, this action does not affect current beneficiaries, nor do they lose the protection provided by DACA and they can still process renewals.

Faced with this situation, the Department of Homeland Security announced a new regulation for DACA. It was published in the Federal Register on September 28 and will take effect 60 days after that date. This new regulation would protect more than 700,000 undocumented migrants who arrived in the United States as children.
For years Congress has sought DACA to represent a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. The Joe Biden administration has as one of its main objectives the approval of comprehensive immigration reform, which allows Dreamers to have access to US citizenship.
“This notice of proposed rule is an important step toward achieving that goal. However, only Congress can provide permanent protection, ”explained Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of national security.
Through DACA thousands of undocumented immigrants have managed to get ahead thanks to the opportunity to study and work without fear of deportation.
