Undocumented students at California Community College System (CCCS) community colleges and universities will receive free legal advice and financial aid in some cases.
Undocumented university students, who belong to universities or community colleges of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, will be able to receive free legal advice and also access financial benefits to pay for Deferred Action (DACA) renewal or naturalization procedures.
Through the website Chabot Dream Center, students can consult information on how to request legal advice and schedule an appointment. Abigail García Patton, spokesperson for the Chabot Dream Center, explained that they have services in Spanish, free legal assistance for students and their families, as well as the opportunity to have the accompaniment of a counselor.
Likewise, Chabot Dream, thanks to the CA Immigration Legal Services project, offers financial support to students to cover the $495 required to fill out the DACA renewal. And $725 to cover the paperwork for the naturalization process.
Patton explained that each semester through this initiative supports at least 300 students in the area. However, for the time being, legal advice is provided only by telephone or virtual.
