Some of the largest employers in the United States sent a letter to congressional leaders from both parties detailing the importance of legislation that protects Dreamers, American companies and the economy.
Coalition for the American Dream, is made up of some of the most important companies in the United States, who are calling on Congress to legislate in favor of DACA and Dreamers. The mission of this coalition is to seek the passage of legislation that provides a permanent solution for Dreamers. "The Dreamers grew up in the United States, they are part of our society and contribute to our economy," explains the coalition. Furthermore, the companies involved recognize that, without Congressional action, hundreds of thousands of Dreamers will lose their permission to stay and work in the country.
The letter was published in full pages of newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, the Dallas Morning News and the Charlotte Observer. The main content of the letter is the possible negative effects in the event that DACA comes to an end or that Congress does not provide a permanent solution to Dreamers.
The main concern of the companies is that thousands of people would lose their jobs, which would make it difficult for the economy to recover after the pandemic. If DACA ceased to exist, the country's economy would lose up to $11.7 billion annually, or close to $1 billion each month, the coalition letter explains.
“Dreamers are an essential part of the fabric of our nation. They make our communities stronger, they make our companies more innovative, and they deserve the right to live in America with dignity. I am with the bipartisan majority of Americans who agree that granting permanent protections for Dreamers is the right thing to do. It's time for Congress to act," said Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Likewise, Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, explained that the decision made by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals caused more uncertainty than ever for DACA beneficiaries, so I assure that the company he directs will continue to litigate and promote a solution. bipartisan
