Open a bank account in the United States

It is possible to open a bank account in the US even without being a resident or citizen. Having access to banking services is important to start a business or acquire a home loan.

Although in most banks in the United States it is necessary to have a social security number to open a bank account, there are options that do not require this type of data and if others such as the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), information that can facilitate the opening of a bank account for non-resident aliens of the United States.

For obvious reasons, the personal or corporate account that a non-resident opens in the United States will have limitations compared to an account of a US citizen.

Bank of Americais one of the banks that offers non-residents the possibility of opening a personal account, however, the requirements vary depending on the state. Generally the requirements are the following: passport, personal data, email, telephone number and address.

There are currently no federal or state laws that prohibit undocumented immigrants from the opportunity to start their own business. Therefore, a second option to open an account is to create a corporate bank account when creating a company in the United States.

When creating a company, an Employer Identification Number (EIN) will be obtained, which provides greater access to banking services.
