The Café del Futuro is a scholarship awarded annually by Café Bustelo to Latino students from universities affiliated with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU).
Since 2014, Café Bustelo has awarded more than 550 thousand dollars in scholarships for 110 university students of Latino origin nationwide. This scholarship seeks to offer greater opportunities for Latino students, their families and their communities. This year El Café del Futuro will award 25 scholarships of 5,000 dollars to students who belong to universities and institutions that are members of HACU.
The call for these scholarships closed recently, on July 1, and one of the requirements to apply was the writing of an 800-word essay on how the Latino heritage, his family and his community have influenced him to start or continue his university studies. The essay in English or Spanish had to contain how the students plan to give something back to their communities.
In addition to the essay, the requirements to apply for this annual scholarship are:
- Be a full-time student of any undergraduate or graduate study program.
- Latino descent
- Enrolled in a HACU member institution, in the United States and Puerto Rico.
“This scholarship offers a great motivational boost to keep moving forward knowing that I am being supported by my community,” explained Sinai Cota, a student at the University of California, San Diego, who was one of the 2021 scholarship recipients.
Last year the scholarship was awarded to students in Arizona, Texas, California, Washington DC, Florida, Illinois, and Puerto Rico.
