Under the slogan “Financial Education without Borders”, the 9th edition of the Comprehensive Financial Education Week for Mexicans Abroad (SEFIME) will be held. It will be held in the Mexican representations in the US, Canada and Latin America in virtual mode.
In 2006, the Institute of Mexicans Abroad (IME) started a financial education program for Mexican migrants. The program was designed to bring Mexican communities in the United States closer to services and programs focused on the administration of their economic resources.
Thus, six years later, the first Financial Education Week was held through the IME and the Consular Network of Mexico in the United States and Canada. In this way, financial services and financial education were brought closer together by Mexican communities in both countries.
Since 2012, eight editions of this activity have been held, reaching more than half a million people directly thanks to the work of more than 700 local partners and more than 3.1 million people through the media. In addition, they have had the participation of 20 public and private institutions in Mexico.
This year, the Financial Literacy Week activities have been modified to include more countries. “For the year 2021, in order to give attention to bringing information on financial inclusion education to the Mexican Representations in Latin America, it is decided to change the name to Comprehensive Financial Education Week for Mexicans Abroad (SEFIME) in order to to serve the diaspora in those countries, "explains the IME.
The SEFIME will be an activity that will also be supported by the collaboration of the Consular Network of Mexico in the US and Canada with the IME. The SEFIME will offer workshops, training, talks and more, on financial education issues aimed especially at Mexican men and women living abroad. This year it will be held in virtual mode from June 14 to 21.
