Kamala Harris asks the Senate to pass the law that would give way to citizenship to Dreamers

The Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, expressed her position on the approval of the American Dream and Promise Act, and called on senators to vote in favor of the bill that has already passed through the House of Representatives.

The American Dream and Promise Act, promoted by the Joe Biden administration, was passed in March by the House of Representatives, and is awaiting ratification by the Senate. This law would give Dreamers and beneficiaries of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) an opportunity to obtain citizenship.

"It is vitally important that we provide a path for citizens to give these people a sense of certainty and security," he said. Harris called on senators to repeat what the House of Representatives achieved and pass the law: "We call on the Senate to do the same."

Richard Durbin, one of the promoters of the DREAM Act 20 years ago, and current chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, expressed the importance of migrants in American society. "These immigrants have contributed $ 17.4 billion in federal taxes and more than $ 9.6 billion in state and local taxes."

"It is time to allow these people to finally become American citizens," concluded Durbin.
