US government suspends policy that forced asylum seekers to carry out their process outside of that country.

The Joe Biden administration has decided to suspend the immigration policy that did not allow asylum-seeking migrants to remain in the United States during the process.

This policy began to be implemented in January 2019 and has come to an end in June 2021. More than 70 thousand asylum seekers have been sent from the United States to migrants stranded in Mexico since the inception of the policy.

This policy had caused a migration crisis in the border cities of Mexico. Joe Biden promised during his campaign that he would end this policy of expelling asylum seekers, after being elected and taking office he asked his team to review the policy.

Finally, in June, the Secretary of National Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, explained in a statement that maintaining the policy "would not be compatible with the vision and values of this Government, and would constitute a misuse of the department's resources."

In addition, Mayorkas reported in February that more than 11,000 asylum seekers who had been expelled from the US could return to the country to wait for their case to be resolved in immigration courts.
