Awarded by the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley (HFSV), the Latinos in Technology Scholarship is a scholarship that provides financial support and professional development opportunities to Latino students in Northern California.
The 2022 Latinos in Technology cohort benefited 52 new students of Latino origin, pursuing STEM majors at Northern California universities. This program provides $10,000 in annual financial support for Latino students pursuing STEM careers, as well as professional development and internship opportunities. Students majoring in biology, chemistry, computer science, and engineering stood out among the 2022 scholarship recipients.
“Honestly, I think [the scholarship] has made my college experience so far so much easier, and it doesn't seem so hard to try to find space [in the job field],” explained Carmen Vargas Velázquez, a third-year biology student. Cellular and Molecular at San Francisco State University.
In addition to financial support, HFSV has a mentoring program called Conexiones, in which young Latino students are mentored for five months by Latinos who have finished college and are working professionally in STEM.
“That investment that [HFSV] made in me is not only developing now through my investments in other young STEM professionals. But the work continues and will continue for generations to come,” said Joseph Hernandez, 2022 Latinos in Technology grant recipient.
Currently the call for the 2023 cohort of this scholarship is still open. See more information at the following link: https://www.hfsv.org/latinos-in-technology-scholarship/
