The United States Government announced that it will grant 22 thousand work visas in the construction and services sector to citizens of Mexico and Central America.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of the United States reported in a statement on April 20, that they would grant 22,000 new visas for non-agricultural workers, of which 6,000 are directed to the population of the Northern Triangle of Central America and approximately 6,600 to Mexican workers.
This action represents an expansion of the number of visas issued each year. DHS explains that this is part of an executive order from President Joe Biden: "Creating a comprehensive regional framework to address the causes of migration, manage migration throughout North and Central America, and provide safe and orderly processing of asylum seekers at the US border, "the statement explained.

Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security, highlighted the importance and commitment to expanding legal channels for Central American migrants to obtain a job opportunity in the United States. These types of H-2B visas were designed to support employers in filling temporary jobs.
"The temporary rule is designed to prevent permanent and severe financial losses for US employers, takes into account feedback from employers and labor representatives, and is one piece of the comprehensive framework for managing migration throughout North and Central America." explained the Department of Labor.
Through the Immigration and Nationality Act, the United States Congress has established a limit of 66 thousand visas per fiscal year, of which 33 thousand correspond to workers hired between October 2020 and March 2021 and the following 33 thousand from April to September.
