The DS-160 is a form to apply for a B1 or B2 nonimmigrant visa or fiancé(e) of K visa holders.
The DS-160 form is the first step in applying for a US nonimmigrant or temporary traveler visa, B1 or B2. This form is completed online, therefore, when you submit it, it will be received directly by the US Department of State (DOS).
This first step to obtain the visa is the first filter to be able to process it, which is why it is important that the form is filled out in the best way and without errors. Upon completion of this procedure, an interview with US authorities proceeds, who determine the applicant's eligibility.
The form is completed on the Electronic Consular Application Center site. This process lasts approximately 90 minutes, so applicants must make time in their day to complete it without pressure and not make mistakes. DOS recommends using Internet Explorer 11 or higher, Firefox, or Google Chrome, the app system does not work with Microsoft Edge or Safari.
The documents required to start the process are the following:
- Passport
- Travel itinerary, in case you have plans
- Dates of your last five visits or trips to the United States.
- International travel history for the last five years.
- Curriculum Vitae, information about your education and employment history.
When you start filling out the form, it is necessary to select from a list the location where you make the application for the visa. The next step is to enter identification data, such as names, surnames, place of birth, among others, and make the payment for the service. After this the applicant will receive a confirmation email.
Subsequently, the applicant must fill in questions related to the aforementioned documents. And finally you will receive an email with the confirmation sheet with the identification number of the DS-160. This document must be printed and brought with you on the day of the interview at the US consulate.
