Alejandro Mayorkas, expressed his point of view on the new policies of the department that he directs, after the end of Title 42
Title 42 came to an end and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was preparing for more than a year the new measures that seek a safe and orderly migration in the face of the large flow of migrants seeking to cross the southern border.
In an interview with Telemundo, the secretary of national security, Alejandro Mayorkas, explained the importance of the new measures to manage migratory flows at the border. “We are prepared, we have a plan for different scenarios, and we are executing on those plans.” Likewise, he explained that the end of Title 42 does not mean that the borders will be open and free for migratory flows.
"We are processing migrants in a very organized and fast way, he explained about the Processing Centers implemented by the Border Patrol (CBP)." In addition, he explained that it is the US immigration authorities that are approaching where the migrants are, offering them safe legal and orderly mechanisms. “If they come to our southern border, it will be presumed that they are not eligible, that they do not qualify to request asylum.”
Likewise, he mentioned that the United States is a country of immigrants, however, it is also a country of laws, for which reason he highlighted the importance of immigrants respecting the laws and not being fooled by false information. “We need them to listen to us and allow us to apply our laws to pursue those opportunities in a safe way,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that some of the measures promoted by the DHS to deal with massive illegal migration is the creation of more legal pathways for legal migration, creating Processing Centers in countries like Guatemala and Colombia.
