The Secretariat for Migrants and International Liaison of the state of Guanajuato provides support to Guanajuatenses who are eligible to process their retirement in the United States.
The Secretariat for Migrants and International Liaison (SMEI) is a state agency in charge of driving and promoting public policies in favor of migrants. It has various services and support in procedures for immigrants from Guanajuato who returned from the United States, for migrants in transit, and for family reunification.
In addition, another of its main services is guidance and support for Guanajuatenses who worked in the United States and can access a federal economic pension from Social Security.
The SMEI's "Federal Social Security Benefits" program helps the population with the corresponding procedures, especially older adults in municipalities such as Silao, Romita, Guanajuato, Dolores Hidalgo, San Miguel de Allende, Juventino Rosas, Comonfort, Irapuato and Manuel Doblado.
To access pension payments in the United States, it is necessary to have worked for at least ten years and be 62 years of age. On the other hand, to access the SMEI support program, it is also necessary to be 62 years of age or older, have a resident card, United States social security number (SSN), original birth certificate and voter ID. .
It should be noted that this procedure is carried out in the Federal Benefits/Social Security Unit, which has three modules throughout the country and the one that corresponds to Guanajuato is located in the United States Embassy in Mexico City.
“I came to process my papers, for my retirement in the United States, they treated me very well and the best thing was that I qualified, there was no problem. This money will come to me for the rest of my life, I already went to that country to provide my service and now that they provide this service to me there, I am very happy", explained Mr. Antonio, one of the beneficiaries of this program guidance and support.
