Since 2019, the California Community Colleges (CCCCO) has offered free legal advice to its immigrant students, especially DACA recipients.
Immigration Legal Services is a program of the California Community Colleges (CCCO) that since 2019 provides free immigration services to students, staff and faculty at 65 of the 116 institutions that are part of the CCCCOs. Also known as the Higher Education Immigration Legal Services Program, it promotes and facilitates access to legal services for undocumented immigrants who are part of the CCCO community.
This service gives priority to students, staff, and faculty who are undocumented at all campuses. For them they have developed scheduling, intake and reporting processes that ensure information remains protected and confidential.
Immigration legal assistance includes: consultations to assess immigration status; Deferred Action (DACA) renewals; and family-based petitions, through work, citizenship or residence visas; through naturalization; Advance Parole; among other. Likewise, no petitions based on deportation or support in the asylum application.

“Our services range from a general inquiry about whether I am entitled to anything in terms of relief options, to questions about my immigration status, to questions about a petition that was filed on my behalf and I just wanted to get a second one. opinion”, explained Alonso García, director of the program.
Since its implementation, this program has benefited more than 7,500 people; however, the number could be higher considering that in the CCCOs there are around 50,000 undocumented students on the 116 campuses.
