Mexican students at universities and community colleges in the United States will participate this summer in the "Cultural Immersion and Volunteer Program for young students of Mexican origin."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME), coordinated with the state governments of Jalisco, Hidalgo, Zacatecas, Michoacán and Oaxaca to promote this cultural exchange and volunteer program for Mexican students in USA.
The objective of the "Cultural Immersion and Volunteer Program for young students of Mexican origin" (PICV) is to provide a cultural immersion experience in Mexico to second, third and/or fourth generation students of Mexican origin and to strengthen their ties in the country and promote its cultural ties with Mexico.
In this way, the program offers them a job opportunity as a volunteer in support of Mexican communities in the United States, who seek to strengthen their ties with Mexico.
The PICV will last three weeks, from June 11 to 30, 2023. The first week of work contemplates an academic and cultural work agenda in Mexico City, and the remaining two weeks the students will travel to the communities of the participating states, taking into account the following criteria: The state of family origin of the participating student and the state of interest expressed according to their academic, professional or project profile.
Among the activities to be carried out are cultural visits; participation in workshops with artisans and artisans; educational activities on the history of Mexico; educational volunteering, environmental sports and community development; and social economy activities.
On the other hand, participating students will have access to benefits such as local transfers, lodging and food during their stay in Mexico and a certificate of participation issued by the IME.
