This is known as a \u201cpublic charge.\u201d However, not all applicants go through this process, that is, it is not a routine process for the immigration authorities.<\/p><p>The public charge rule has been applied for more than 100 years to deny visas to people who would become dependents of the government after obtaining immigration status. For example, there is a belief that if family members of an applicant receive government benefits, this will affect their application. However, this information is not correct, since, when applying for legal residence, agents do not even ask if children or relatives are beneficiaries of government programs.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-7a5877d8 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no wpr-sticky-section-no wpr-equal-height-no\" data-id=\"7a5877d8\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-66500d84\" data-id=\"66500d84\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-72cdd38f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"72cdd38f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Additionally, the only programs that affect applicants with respect to public charge are:<\/p><ul><li>Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which provides financial resources to children and adults living with disabilities.<\/li><li>Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), which offers cash support to low-income families.<\/li><li>Medicaid<\/li><\/ul><p>A few years ago, the previous administration promoted a new public charge rule that made the residency application process more difficult, by requiring more forms and adding more criteria on public charge, which affected beneficiaries of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), public housing or rental subsidies at the federal level.
