La Green Card es el documento que autoriza ser residente legal permanente (LPR) en Estados Unidos a las personas de origen extranjero. The steps that will need to be followed to apply for this card vary depending on the individual situation, but most will need to complete at least two forms: an immigrant petition and the Application for Registration of Permanent Residence or Adjustment of Status (Form I-485).<\/p>

Most of the time this benefit is granted thanks to the request or sponsorship of a third person: an immediate family member or a US company or organization.<\/p>

Having a Green Card is a privilege. Residents can live permanently anywhere in the United States and have the right to work in the country's companies with social security. Although it must be renewed approximately every 10 years, it is also an opportunity to obtain citizenship since being a Green Card holder for 5 years it is possible that the holder is eligible for naturalization.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

According to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (USCIS), permanent residents can own property, have the right to attend public schools, also to apply for a driver's license in their state.<\/p>

Similarly, permanent residents are eligible to apply for citizenship once they have met the requirements. They can also apply for visas for their spouse and unmarried children to reside in the United States.<\/p>

It is recommended that beneficiaries carry documentation proving their permanent resident status to avoid problems with the authorities. If they change their address, they must notify USCIS.<\/p>

If you are eligible to obtain the LPR and you live in the United States, you must apply to the authorities for an Adjustment of Immigration Status.<\/p>

This means that you can obtain permanent residence without having to return to your country of origin to complete the visa process. USCIS will assign you an appointment, interview, and requests for evidence.<\/p>

If you have been with a Green Card for more than 5 years, you can be a candidate to obtain American citizenship.
