Permanent residency allows immigrants permission to live and work in the United States legally. For example, for family members such as sons or daughters, under 21 years of age, spouse and parents if the citizen is over 21 years of age.<\/p><p>However, in addition to family ties and employers, refugee or asylum status is also a way to apply for permanent residence in the country.<\/p><p>Immigration inspectors from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of the Department of Homeland Security are in charge of admitting immigrants as LPRs. Three months after the process, the now permanent resident will receive their <em>Green Card. <\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The difference between a residence visa or Green Card and a non-immigrant visa is that with the first the citizen obtains an official immigration status in the country, obtains certain rights and responsibilities, and it is also one more step to obtain the naturalization as a US citizen and on the other hand the second is granted to citizens who visit the United States for short periods of time, for different reasons such as tourism, business, medical treatment, studies.<\/p><p>In addition, there are different types of immigrant visas to work in the United States:<\/p><ul><li>EB-1: For individuals with extraordinary ability in science, arts, education, business, sports, etc.<\/li><li>EB-2: For professionals with graduate degrees, or individuals with exceptional aptitude in the arts, sciences, or business.<\/li><li>EB-3: For professionals, skilled workers, and others.<\/li><li>EB-4: For special immigrants such as religious workers, employees of the United States Government abroad, retired personnel of international organizations and minors protected by United States courts, among others.<\/li><li>EB-5: For visa es un documento oficial otorgado por autoridades consulares de Estados Unidos: existen diferentes clasificaciones dentro de las visas y funcionan para situaciones distintas. La Green Card, o Tarjeta verde, es un documento que acredita a un inmigrante como residente legal permanente (LPR) en Estados Unidos. La residencia permanente permite a inmigrantes el permiso para vivir y trabajar en Estados Unidos de forma legal. En la mayor parte de los casos, un empleador o familiar es quien solicita la residencia permanente para otra persona. En caso de familiares, un ciudadano estadounidense puede solicitar residencia permanente a trav\u00e9s del Servicio de Ciudadan\u00eda e Inmigraci\u00f3n de Estados Unidos (USCIS, en ingl\u00e9s). Por ejemplo, para familiares como hijos o hijas, menores de 21 a\u00f1os, c\u00f3nyuge y padres si es que el ciudadano es mayor de 21 a\u00f1os. Sin embargo, adem\u00e1s de los enlaces familiares y los empleadores, el estatus de refugiado o asilado tambi\u00e9n es una forma de solicita la residencia permanente en el pa\u00eds. Los inspectores de inmigraci\u00f3n de Aduanas y Protecci\u00f3n Fronteriza (CBP, en ingl\u00e9s) del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional, son los encargados de admitir a inmigrantes como LPR. Tres meses posteriores al tramite el ahora residente permanente recibir\u00e1 su Green Card. La diferencia entre una visa de residencia o Green Card y una visa de no-inmigrante, es que con la primera el ciudadano obtiene un estatus oficial de inmigraci\u00f3n en el pa\u00eds, obtiene ciertos derechos y responsabilidades, y adem\u00e1s es un paso m\u00e1s para conseguir la naturalizaci\u00f3n como ciudadano estadounidense y por otra parte la segunda se otorga a ciudadanos que visitan Estados Unidos por periodos cortos de tiempo, por diferentes razones como turismo, negocios, tratamiento m\u00e9dico, estudios. Adem\u00e1s, existen diferentes tipos de visas de inmigrante para trabajar en Estados Unidos: EB-1: Para personas con aptitudes extraordinarias en ciencias, artes, educaci\u00f3n, negocios, deportes, etc. EB-2: Para profesionales con t\u00edtulos de posgrado, o personas con aptitudes excepcionales en artes, ciencias o negocios. EB-3: Para profesionales, trabajadores especializados y otros. EB-4: Para inmigrantes especiales como trabajadores religiosos, empleados del Gobierno de Estados Unidos en el extranjero, personal jubilado de organizaciones internacionales y menores protegidos por tribunales de Estados Unidos, entre otros.
