Tax season began on January 24 and the last day to accept and process returns for Tax Year 2021 will be April 18.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced on January 11 that, as of January 24, it is possible to file the annual tax return and, if applicable, claim the corresponding amount of the Child Tax Credit, or claim any stimulus money remainder as Refund Recovery Credit.
"Planning for the nation's tax season process is a huge undertaking, and IRS teams have worked tirelessly over the past few months to prepare," said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. In addition, he explained that to ensure that the tax return and refunds do not face delays, it is necessary to file electronically with direct deposit and avoid paper tax returns.
“We urge more attention to be paid to those who received an Economic Impact Payment or Advance Child Tax Credit last year. People should make sure they report the correct amount on their tax return to avoid delays,” Rettig explained.
Likewise, the IRS asks taxpayers to have the necessary information to file their return and avoid any type of delay in refunds. In addition, they set the deadline for the majority for Monday, April 18, 2022.
In the United States, undocumented immigrants are also legally required to pay their taxes. Similarly, legal migrants with F or J visas must pay their taxes if they were in the United States at any time between January and December 2021. This process must be done by filling out IRS form 8843.
