Within the framework of the State of the Union Address (SOTU), President Joe Biden pointed out the importance of providing a path to citizenship for dreamers.
During SOTU, the president's annual state of the country address to Congress, Joe Biden called on lawmakers to push for a law that provides a path to citizenship for dreamers, immigrants with temporary protected status, agricultural workers, and essential workers.
Biden explained that “it is not only the right thing to do, but it is economically smart. That is why immigration reform is supported by unions, religious leaders, and the United States Chamber of Commerce.”
Previously, Biden spoke about the importance of improving the immigration system and reinforcing security on the southern border to prevent illegal drug trafficking and human trafficking.
He also commented that they have implemented a system of specialized immigration judges so that families fleeing persecution and violence can be served and hear their cases faster.
In this sense, he also highlighted the importance of working with countries in Central and South America so that they strengthen their borders and so that they can receive more refugees. "We can do all of this while keeping the torch of freedom burning that has brought generations of immigrants to this land: my ancestors and many of theirs," the president explained.
"Let's do it once and for all," Biden concluded, referring to the immigration reform legislation, which not only pursues social and cultural benefits but also economic ones.
