The growth of remittances to Mexico continues; $ 23 billion in the first half of 2021

The Bank of Mexico reported that remittances continue to grow as they have been for 14 months, also registering the highest figures in the last semester.

Remittances to Mexico, one of the main sources of income for millions of Mexican families, continue to grow, since for a year and two months they have registered growth. Only in 2021 the accumulated growth figure between January and June was 22.4% compared to the same period last year, this is equivalent to $ 23,618 million dollars.

In addition, the accumulated flow of income from remittances in the period July 2020-June 2021 reached the figure of $ 44.93 billion dollars. And only in June there was an increase of 25.5% with respect to the same month last year, that is, income of $ 4.440 million from remittances.


In this way, remittances grew 8.7% year-on-year, that is, $ 11.3 million dollars. Regarding the average figure per operation, there was an increase of 15.6%, corresponding to $ 393 dollars, the highest figure in the last 12 years.

“With these results, the surplus of the remittance account of Mexico with the rest of the world was $ 4,357 million dollars, higher than the $ 3,478 million that was presented in the same month of 2020 ”, explained Banxico.

Likewise, Banxico explained that in the first semester of this year 99.1% of remittances were made through electronic transfers.

On the other hand, Banxico announced that, starting in August, each month it will present a bulletin with the main results of income and expenses for remittances abroad.
