    3. In order to save time at the Washington Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) we recommend that you should complete the pre-application form for a driver’s license through the State of Washington website, so that you do not have to wait that long to get your driver’s license.

    3. You can take the written test in Spanish. Call 802-828-2000 to schedule your written test. They’ll ask your name, phone number, and date of birth, as well as the place where you prefer to take your test. The main offices of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) are: 4 Market St, South Burlington, VT 120 State Street, Montpelier, VT 101 State Place Rutland, VT
    4. Go to the appointment and complete there the Application for a Driver’s License. This application will be given to you at the office chosen.

    4. Go to the office. You can prefill the application or fill it there.
      You can submit evidence of your previous driving skills with a driver’s license from another state or country or having completed a driving course to avoid having to use a 90-day learner permit.

      You will have a photograph taken.
      You will have to take and pass an eye exam, as well as the theoretical and practical tests.

    1. Gather the documentation necessary for the procedure: Original or certified copy of birth certificate, accompanied by a notarized translation. You will also need to submit the Mexican consular registration issued after February 1, 2015 by the offices of Albuquerque or El Paso. Or a valid passport of any nationality. In order to evidence your residence in New Mexico, you must submit one of the documents listed below: LIST.
    2. Study for the driver’s license test. You’ll have to take one theoretical test and one practical test.     4. Go to the appointment and submit the documents required for the process.

    People who live in the state of Colorado, and who do not have documents evidencing their lawful state in the US may obtain their driver’s license.

    2. You will have to take the following examinations: written and practical tests, eye exam and hearing test. Download here the PDF handbook to prepare for the exam.
    3. Make an appointment before going to one of the offices. To make an appointment visit this website or call 303-205-2335. Not all offices serve migrants, so making your appointment is very important. If you do it online, choose the “Immigration Document Investigation” option. There you can choose one of the three offices where you can make your appointment.
    4. Go to the appointment and submit the documents required for the process, which you gathered in step 1.
      You will have to take and pass an eye exam , and the theoretical test.
      After passing the examination, you will have to pay US$14 for obtaining an learner’s permit, which will allow you to take your driving test.

    People who live in the state of Connecticut, and who do not have documents evidencing their lawful stay in the US may obtain their driver’s license.

    1. Gather the documentation necessary for the process (See requirements). If your documents are not in English, they must be translated by a translator authorized by the DMV.
    2. Study for the driver’s license test.
      You can download the driver’s manual to get ready for the theoretical test here.
    3. Make your appointment online for the eye and knowledge tests. You can schedule your appointment here. Upon requesting an appointment online you must submit an affidavit stating that as soon as you are eligible, you will submit an application to legalize your immigration status. Do not worry, the system itself will help you perform this step.
    4. When you get to your appointment, you must submit the required documents.
      You must pass the Connecticut checks on driving background and criminal records.
      Once you pass your knowledge tests and background checks, the DMV will mail you a learner’s permit to practice driving.
      In the state of Connecticut, if you are receiving a new license, you will be required to take a safe driving course: you can take it in anyof these schools or these ones.
      You must schedule your driving test by calling the DMV.

    3. You have to make an appointment in one of the offices of the Secretary of State. You can find the list here. Appointments can be scheduled online or by calling 855-236-1155, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To cancel your appointment, call 312-814-4913.
    4. Go to the appointment and submit the required documents.

      This type of license is valid only when the holder drives a vehicle with an insurance policy (basic coverage) in force.

    1. The requirements to get a driver’s license in the state of Maryland are the following:
      1. Providing a valid ID, e.g. passport or consular ID from Mexico, Guatemala and Ecuador.
      2. Providing two residency documents, such as a lease agreement, bank account or credit card statement, utility bills such as gas, electricity, water and phone or cable bills.
      3. Providing evidence that Maryland state taxes have been paid over the last two years. To such end, you must obtain a certificate from the MD Comptroller office. You can read how to get the letter here.
    2. Study for the driver’s license test. . You’ll have to take one theoretical test and one practical test. In order to take the theoretical test, study theMaryland Driver’s Manual. You can take mock knowledge tests here.
    3. You must make your appointment online here. You must confirm in the system the documents you will submit before being able to make the appointment.
    4. If you are requesting a Learner’s Permit (driver’s license for beginners), which is mandatory if you have never had a license, or if you are exchanging a foreign driver’s license for a license from Maryland, you must take the skills test. Persons applying for a Learner’s Permit must pass a knowledge test and an eye exam to get the permit and they must complete the Maryland driver’s education program. If you are exchanging a foreign license, you must complete the three-hour educational program on alcohol and drugs before applying for the license.
